MADE-BY ambassador Olivier Houalet, also known as the Cheetah Man, has taught orphaned lynx to forage in the jungle, wrestled with wild dogs to rescue a baby monkey and sleeps cheek-to-cheek next to the fastest animal in the world, the cheetah. Born in Singapore to French parents, Olivier spent his youth living between Africa and France. Olivier was just 18 when he arrived in Namibia to help his father open Amani Lodge. The 28-year-old now lives in the Namibian bush. Close to the capital Windhoek, in Southern Africa, he teaches captured animals how to live wild. Together with his father, Alain, they run the Amani Lodge and its sanctuary for Big Cats - a refuge and rehabilitation centre for strays left orphaned or abandoned. Olivier sees himself continuing his life and work in conservation. He would like to be remembered as someone who did something good for conservation, our planet and wildlife - from the smallest beetle to the biggest elephant. “I consider myself a bridge between the animals and humans. I feel part of nature and live according to the law of nature”, says Olivier. When Olivier heard about MADE-BY’s work with supply chains in Africa he was very |
intrigued. On a trip to London, Olivier met up with MADE-BY to learn more about the organisation, and ended up becoming an Ambassador for MADE-BY in 2009. Being a lover of nature, sustainability plays an important role in Olivier’s life and work. By no means a slave to fashion trends, Olivier has a keen interest in functional clothing that works well in the elements. MADE-BY partner brand Nomad, is one of Olivier’s go-to clothing labels. Specialising in an outdoor wear product range, Nomad focuses on clothing and products for protection, carrying, resting and discovery in the outdoors. With Nomad’s promise to keep you prepared for the unexpected, this is the perfect fit for Olivier. Nomad says: “Our products have a lot to offer in helping you react quickly in tricky situations”. And we expect that Olivier encounters ‘tricky situations’ on quite a regular basis. Olivier appreciates the holistic approach that MADE-BY uses to achieve sustainability in fashion as it reflects his own holistic attitudes towards sustainability for people and for the planet. |
