This 2nd meeting of the APPG focussed on: how UK fashion companies will be impacted by two key developments; legislation within Europe on sustainability reporting and the emergence of new industry groups like the Sustainable Apparel Coalition.

Executive Director of the Institute for Human Rights and Business - commenting on the movement of EU legislation on business and human rights and the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act.

14:30       Speaker 2 - Victor Kjær,
Deputy General Director, Danish Commerce and Companies Agency, Ministry
of Business and Growth - explaining the Danish legal CSR requirements
that came into force from 2009, how it has worked to date and the key
findings of their recent evaluation.

14:45       Speaker 3 - Lord Tony Young, Labour Party life peer, shares his knowledge and experiences as Vice Chair for Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), his involvement with labour standards due to his active roles with trade unions

14:55       Baroness Young chairs audience questions   

15:05       Lucy Shea, CE of Futerra Sustainability Communications - sharing views on how the UK fashion industry could approach reporting through experience working with a breadth brands and who recently developed the first ever sustainability report for the Olympics

15:15       Sean Ansett, former CR Director of Burberry - sharing his experience of working in CR with a global, American High St brand and a UK international luxury brand

SPEAKERS
 

 John Morrison is Executive Director of the international think tank, Institute of Human Rights and Business.  Here, he works with leading organisations, governments, civil society and trade unions, focusing on improving corporate responsibility, accountability and human rights in international business. John’s experience and knowledge of the field includes three influential positions: Director, Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights, Head of Global Campaigns and Community Affairs, The Body Shop International, and Deputy Co-coordinator of The Bosnia Project at Refugee Council.

Victor Kajer is Deputy Director of the Danish Commerce and Companies Agency (DCCA),
a division of the Danish Ministry of Economic and Business Affairs
which is currently overseeing significant changes to Danish CSR
legislation. He is responsible for CSR strategy, company law regulation
and the control of financial reports. Previously, Victor has been
General Director of the Danish Consumer Agency and the Danish Telecom Agency, where he focused on customer relations, consumer technology and biotechnology.

Lord Tony Young is a Labour Party life peer. Amongst numerous other responsibilities, he is Vice Chair of the Ethical Trading Initiative, which aims to form an alliance of corporate partners, trade unions and voluntary sector members to help resolve some of the ethical challenges arising out of global trade – including worker’s rights. Over his long political career he has assumed numerous positions of authority including: General Secretary of National Communications Union and joint General Secretary, then Senior Deputy General Secretary, of the Communication Workers Union. He also served as a Governor of the BBC.

Lucy Shea is the Chief Executive of Futerra, the sustainability communications agency. Lucy provides senior level counsel to top brands, from Unilever to Asda to the United Nations. She is a member of the UN’s Sustainable Lifestyles Taskforce. Her real passion lies in making sustainability desirable. She’s the founder of Swishing. Follow her @swishinglucy.

Sean Ansett  is the founder of At Stake Advisors, European Representative for Social Accountability International and a guest CSR lecturer at INSEAD. Sean’s knowledge and expertise also come from his previous experience working in two major global fashion brands: he is the former CR Director of GAP and former CR Director of Burberry.

Rowland Hill is currently Corporate Sustainability Manager at Marks & Spencer, where he has worked for almost 30 years. During this time he has been a part of M&S’s sustainability plan, Plan A, right from its inception, and he continues to work to  keep their strategies up to date and in line with current thinking. In addition, he has been Chair of the Environmental Policy Group at the British Retail Consortium for six years.
