The Baand is the newest collection from the Danish designer duo behind makeZenz. Danish designer Julie Villumsen started the women's fashion brand makeZenz in 2002. The Baand’s market debut was the Spring/ Summer 2010 collection. A collection the designers’ call "fashion basics". "The idea with the first collection and for the brand in general is to offer the style conscious woman the most essential items for her closet, so every day is a good day - fashion wise at least", explains Villumsen. With styles that are easy to mix, The Baand makes it possible to create a personal look. Be stylish with stilettos, cool with boots or relaxed with a cute pair of ballerinas. All prints are designed especially for The Baand by New York based graphic artist Matthew Langille, and the entire collection was made from high quality Peruvian organic cotton, socially responsible produced in Lima. |
During her fashion education Villumsen learned about the damage that the fashion industry was causing to the environment. Since then she has only used organic cotton for her designs. The first collection was presented in 2003 at the CPH Vision fashion fair in Copenhagen. At the time makeZenz was the only sustainable brand at the fair and it was received very well. After three years of working freelance for Villumsen, textile buyer Stine Bauer, joined the company in 2006. “We like to call ourselves organic fashion pioneers,” says Villumsen. “With the makeZenz collection we have been pioneers, constantly learning by doing. With The Baand we want to focus on giving the customers what they want: easily sold pieces in high quality materials at good prices. Something that has been made possible using the contacts we have been given by MADE-BY.” The Baand is already available in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Corsica, Italy and Greece. |
