Claudia Sträter is a womenswear fashion brand that joined MADE-BY in November 2008. In addition to their activities involved in improving conditions in their factories and using more sustainable fabrics, in 2010 Claudia Sträter further proved their commitment to becoming a more sustainable brand by forming a “sustainability team”, consisting of members from various departments including buying, marketing, design, IT and high level management. This team met with MADE-BY on a monthly basis in order to embed Corporate Responsibility into the culture of the organisation.
Social Conditions in Factories Claudia Sträter is a member of BSCI, with the aim of having two thirds of their supplier base compliant to the BSCI standards by 2015. In 2010 they made progress in getting three of their suppliers BSCI compliant (Class B), and a further three gained SA8000 certification (Class A). Furthermore, a large percentage of their production takes place in low risk countries (Class A), resulting in a total 58% of their production scoring Class A on their Social Scorecard.
Environmental Impact of Raw Materials In order to more effectively source sustainable fabrics, Claudia Sträter organised a training day on sourcing sustainable fibres, which resulted in the production of organic cotton t-shirts in 2010. They have also taken first steps in producing one of their most popular trouser styles in organic cotton, which is planned to launch in 2011. Furthermore, TENCEL® (Class B) and linen (Class C) continue to be popular sustainable fibres used in Claudia Sträter’s collection in 2010.
