Komodo are a small brand established in 1989 with a focus on ethical and organic clothing. 83% of their production comes from Nepal. They became a MADE-BY partner in January 2008.
Social Conditions in Factories In 2010, Komodo’s key factory in Nepal achieved SA8000 status. This was a significant achievement as it was the first such factory in Nepal to achieve this internationally recognised standard for social compliance. However, they have struggled to maintain this certification against a backdrop of difficult circumstances in Nepal. A corrective action plan is in place and they will continue to work towards this certificate being reinstated in 2011. These changes in circumstances are reflected in their Scorecard.
Environmental Impact of Raw Materials In 2010, almost 60% of the cotton used by Komodo was organic. Komodo also introduced organic hemp (Class A) into the collection, meaning Class A fibres increased from 0% in 2009 to 6% in 2010.
