Kuyichi is an on-trend denim fashion brand, founded by Dutch NGO Solidaridad in 2001 with the aim of introducing organic cotton into the fashion industry. In January 2005 Kuyichi became one of MADE-BY’s first partner brands.
Social Conditions in Factories In 2010, Kuyichi sourced from 1 new Indian supplier that is SA8000 certified (Class A) and 3 suppliers that are BSCI compliant (Class B), showing an improvement in their social scorecard from previous years. Kuyichi will become a member of BSCI in 2011.
*Please note that Kuyichi’s social scorecard has been amended further to new data from 2010 becoming available after the date of publication and printing of the annual report. It therefore reads differently to the scorecard in the printed and online annual report. This is due to the SA8000 certificate auditing body that was contracted by one of Kuyichi’s suppliers not being accredited by SAI. Therefore, MADE-BY cannot acknowledge this certificate.
Environmental Impact of Raw Materials Kuyichi aspire to be innovative in the use of sustainable fabrics in their collections, however due to significant restructuring in the organisation in 2010, increased use of sustainable fabrics and improvements in their Environmental Scorecard was limited and remains similar to the previous year, with their collection being predominantly produced with organic cotton, which is a Class B fibre. Ambitious targets have been set for 2011, however, so an improvement in their Environmental Scorecard is expected then.
